Telephone
prescription renewals are generally not done except under
extenuating circumstances. The vast majority of physicians
offices will not renew prescriptions by telephone.
Prescriptions
are generally written with enough medication and renewals
to last you until such a time as your medical condition warrants
re-assessment. This time frame may be as short as a few days
or as long as a year. If your prescription is due it means
that we need to re-assess your medical need for that drug,
at that dose, or for the appearance of side effects which
you may or may not have symptoms that you will recognize.
It is simply not safe to renew prescriptions by telephone
and it is not in your best medical interests to do this.
Please
make an appointment to renew your prescriptions before they
run out and while you have lots of time to be seen in the
office and have them re-prescribed. It is also important that
you advise Dr. Kelpin , when you are in the office, of any
prescriptions which are coming due in the near future so he
can renew your prescriptions without a return visit.
Please
note that we generally will not renew medications for spouses
or other family members without that patient being in attendance
to assess the condition for which they are being treated.
This may seem inconvenient for you at times but to do otherwise
would not be good medical care.
